First staff exchange meeting in Kent, UK
- 08.01.2013 - 10.01.2013
- Kent (UK) -
The first staff exchange in ENGAGE took place in January 2013 when Anne-Mari Leppinen and Anne Koskela from SEK and Jean-Dimas Malot from Nievre Numerique spent one week in Maidstone, UK.
The objective was to learn about community engagement in Kent County and the broadband project of County Council. During that week, the attendees got the possibility to attend different level meetings from County Council's Policy & Resources Committee of the Cabinet meeting to personal meetings with community representatives. There was also very useful visit to one village network facing various challenges.
During that week the attendees got a lot of information about UK political system as well as broadband issues. It became obvious, once again, how important it is to get different stages involved from political people to ordinary customers. The advertizing campaign Making Kent Quicker was excellent and there were elements that could also be used in other regions. The idea of digital volunteers was great and could also be adopted. It’s a good tool to spread information as well as teach eSkills. In addition, the involvement of ACKR (Action Communities in Rural Kent) was very essential in engaging villagers.
