July was a busy month in terms of staff exchange. The staff exchange number five took place during the last week of July when Nora Katona, Csilla Andras and Kinga Biro from Harghita County Council arrived to South Ostrobothnia.
The schedule was similar to previous exchanges but specific emphasis was put into the financial models used as well as the involvement of the local community in the process of the expanding HSB networks. During the first day they learnt about Suupohja’s FTTH-network and also had a virtual meeting with the municipality leader Linda Leinonen from Isojoki.
She told the visitors what does it mean for a small municipality like Isojoki to have its own open access FTTH-netwok. The day ended with a visit to a end-user which was a small village store. This village was the second village in Suupohja to get FTTH-network in 2006. The connection was vital for the small store which now has several computers, fax machine, payment terminal etc. behind the connection. They also have a public computer in the store that can be used by anyone for free. Second part of the week was visit to Network co-operative Kuuskaista where they learnt about different way of implementing FTTH-networks. During the visit they also saw a different type of village store which is has the second biggest sales numbers in the whole country. In Seinäjoki visitors got very extensive information package about South Ostrobothnia which was demonstrated with a tour around housing areas, recreation areas and ended with a visit to brand new library that has been said to be the most beautiful in the world. The staff exchange ended with a visit to regional telco and its very interesting network monitoring department.
