ENGAGE Conference and workshop Evora, Portugal

How to avoid the Fibre GAP between Metropolitan and Rural Areas: ENGAGE Conference and workshop
09-10 April 2013
Evora, Portugal

Combating digital isolation in rural areas and equipping them with the tools which enable them to communicate with the global economy and society are two priorities in the District of Evora where the development of new generation networks is a priority of the Regional Agency for the Economic Development of the Alentejo which hosted the ENGAGE workshop, conference and Study visit on April 9-10 and the Association of local authorities of Central Alentejo.

The first day focused on Presentations of local HSB (Local Gov & Demand Perspective); the TELCO Perspective on Rural Broadband Broadband in Portugal and an assessment of Broadband’s impact on SME and Social Innovation./

Adral and its local authority partners are focusing on the definition of a new regional/local profile based on the development of new generation networks and ICT services and skills. This was highlighted during the study visit on day 2 where the ENGAGE partners visited a new entrepreneurial park at Montemor O Novo with its own POP and connected directly to the Community Broadband network of the Evora district. Here new businesses will be able to benefit from access to very high speed broadband; common video conferencing and reception/meeting room facilities with very competitive rents.
