Staff Exchange Slovenia

Third staff exchange meeting in Slovenia

At the end of May, delegations from Finland (Elina Koivisto from the Regional Council of South Ostrobothnia, Arto Mäki from

Suupohjan Seutuverkko Ltd, Esa-Matti Åkerberg from Network Co-operative Kuuskaista and Pekka Hunnakko from Seinäjoki Region Business Service Center), Ireland (Brian Boyle and Geoffrey Brown from County Donegal) and France (Jean-Dimas Malot from Nievre Numerique), took part to the ENGAGE staff exchange week in Slovenia.

The host, the Laboratory for Telecommunications, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, introduced the broadband networks and ICT in Slovenia within five days. Visitors learned about the state of broadband networks in Slovenia, met ICT companies and organizations, took part to a VITEL conference and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and destinations. Visiting partners also shared ideas and knowledge on technical conditions of connecting the open broadband-access networks from their countries, in a common workshop together with public and private stakeholders.

Interesting study visits were a super computer center in a basement of local restaurant and a self-feeding base station in a rural area. Delegations learned different techniques for cable installing used in Slovenia, and the effective usage of existing copper lines.

Staff exchanges are important forms of international co-operation. The exchange helped the partners to learn from the experts of the host country and to hear other countries point of views to HSB. Good practices can improve the development of HSB of the visiting countries, and vice versa: good discussions and comparisons can also contribute to the host country.
